Well Tanks Replacements / Repairs

In most residential homes, water does not come directly from the well pump to your fixtures. Instead, it is drawn and held in a reservoir known as a pressure tank. The pressure tank allows homeowners to draw water on demand without turning the pump on every time they need water. This benefits homeowners in two ways: pressure tanks protect and prolong the lifespan of a well pump and provide homeowners with the water pressure they need to do simple everyday tasks (shower, fill a tub, etc.).

When pressure tanks fail – the internal bladder bursts, the pressure switch malfunctions, or the tank itself springs a leak, it can jeopardize the entire well system.

You may have an issue with your well pressure tank if:

  • You hear the well pump kicking on every time you use water.
  • Your water pressure is fluctuating wildly.
  • You see a visible leak.

It is critical to repair or replace your pressure tank when problems arise to ensure you are safeguarding your well system. A failing pressure tank will increase the wear and tear on the well pump and ultimately can cause premature well pump failure. If you think you may have an issue with your well pressure tank – or any component of your well system – call Mike’s Well Service, to ensure you have the help you need, when you need it most.

Well Sanitizing / Well Chlorination

Unlike homes on city or town water, private wells do not have the municipality to rely on for the regulation of the water’s safety. That means if you have well water no experts are checking your water source and its quality before it is sent to your taps. Households relying on well water should take special precautions to ensure their drinking water is safe for consumption, including periodically testing water for bacteria. If bacteria are found in a well, one of the most common procedures is to sanitize/chlorinate the well. Shock chlorination can help eliminate bacteria, as well as other contaminants causing unpleasant tastes or odors. When should you sanitize/ chlorinate a well?

  • After a positive test for coliform bacteria and/or any other contaminants
  • Whenever a new well pump is installed and/or any well work is being done

When bacteria are present in a well, we strongly recommend re-testing after the initial sanitizing to ensure all bacteria are eliminated. If you need help sanitizing your well, “Call the Well Guy!”.

Point of Sale Well Inspections (POS Inspections)

The POS program mandates the evaluation of the water supply and the wastewater disposal system for any sold property. The purpose of a POS program is three-fold:

  • It provides new homeowners with valuable information concerning their water supply and septic system.
  • It needs upgrades and improvements to the well and septic system.
  • It allows current septic system designs to be evaluated throughout their lifespan.

Water supply evaluations consist of a visual inspection of the well and its location, the identification of possible contamination sources and their isolation distances and the collection of a bacterial and nitrate water sample.

Well Acidization

Mike’s Well Service, LLC always uses the highest quality and state-approved supplies for cleaning well screens. Acid cleaning is usually done after a well has been in service for several years. When a well doesn’t provide as much volume as it did years ago, it is a sign that the screen in the well may need to be cleaned. It is common to hear people say,” I used to be able to do the laundry and take a shower at the same time, now it is difficult to have enough pressure to do just one thing at a time now”.

What happens is that the stainless-steel well screen at the bottom of the well that allows the water to enter the well, becomes clogged and encrusted with minerals. The acid cleaning process involves, pulling the pump and putting acid down the well to dissolve the minerals. After the acid works for a period, the pump is re-installed and pumped off for a length of time, so all the minerals and acidic water is removed from the well. The final step is chlorination.

Winterization Services

Prevent your well water pump from freezing by Calling the Well Guy to winterize it. Ice expands when it freezes and as the ice seeks additional space to spread, it cracks the pump’s casing, causing the system to fail. Even in year-round homes, if a water pump is kept inactive for too long, it might freeze. Water pumps freeze quickly in particular areas here in the Northeast. Keeping the system warm (hot showers, baths, washing on warm, and leaving the water running at a slow drip when you’re gone for lengthy periods) may typically keep the freeze at bay.
